Pedestrians may have priority according to traffic laws but if everything goes according to a recent announcement by Ville-Marie borough mayor, Benoît Labonté, pedestrians may in fact have full priority along Ste. Catherine. Read on…

Currently, Ste. Catherine has been closed off to traffic for the past few summers between Papineau and Berri (essentially the Gay Village) making way for a huge pedestrian walk way complete with street bargains, terrasses, and special events. Labonté however would like to extend the said area westward next summer all the way to Bleury.

If you’re even slightly familiar with the area west of Berri, you might argue that the same dynamic as that of the Village is almost non-existant. Labonté indeed agreed with the latter and therefore will be attempting to attract people to the area with various forms of street entertainment.

All this, of course, must still be approved by the city council and will be voted on within the coming months.
