Well, as you may have noticed, there’s quite the activity around the old Blumenthal building neighbouring Place des Arts. Constructions crews have been working around the clock to prepare for what the Spectra Group (aka the Jazz Fest/Francopholies organizers) has now baptized La Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan.

The blatantly sponsored name springs from the fact that Rio Tinto Alcan is supposedly one of the biggest sponsors for Spectra’s events. But, all corporate stuff aside, and on a better note, it was announced that the new concert hall will open, as scheduled, June 29 with a concert from Montreal jazz icon, Oliver Jones. Of course, this grand opening comes just on time for Spectra’s annual Jazz Fest.
