Well, the company who boasts having “played a vital role in building Canada as a nation” will now be servicing it’s nation from abroad. The Hudson Bay Company, founded in 1670 and now owner of box chain stores The Bay, Zellers and Home Outfitters, recently announced that effective February 28, it will be moving it’s customer service call center to India. Need I say more?

Fast facts:
* In 2006, HBC appointed majority American shareholder Jerry Zucker as the first non-Canadian Governor and CEO of the company.
* Since 2005, HBC is the official outfitter for the Canadian olympic team providing clothing for 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012
* Controversy over the olympic line of clothing erupted when it became apparent that some of the garments were actually made in China

On a brighter note, Bell Canada has announced that it will no longer be transferring it’s calls to India. According to CEO, George Cope, “Some of our off-shore calling has not done what we’ve wanted it to do”. Wow, George, it only took you 6 years to figure that one out!
